About this collection
Most kid-dress collections shy away from black. We don't. Done correctly (matte black tulle, sequin-on-black, jewel-tone neon accents) it is the most photogenic color story in the catalog and the most-requested for evening parties, dance recitals, and statement birthday photos.
How to wear black at her age
Two rules. First, layer texture. Flat black-on-black photographs as a silhouette and loses all the embroidery and sequin work. Black-with-pearl, black-with-sequin, or black-with-tulle-overlay reads dressy without going goth. Second, accent with one color. A black bodice with a coral sash, a black skirt with a soft pink bow, or a black tulle layer over neon-purple lining all photograph beautifully and stay age-appropriate.
When neon and black win
- Evening birthday parties indoor venues with mood lighting; black holds up better than pastel under low light.
- Dance and gymnastics recitals stage lighting flatters saturated and dark colors more than soft pastels.
- Halloween parties (non-costume) the dressy alternative to a costume.
- Sibling photos with darker palettes matches a brother in navy or gray.
- Statement birthday photos sequin-on-black under a softbox is the most-screenshotted look in our reviews.
